Internal Match Report – Sunday 27th September 2026

Newbies vs Club Members

To round off another fantastic outdoor season, Bicester Bowls Club hosted a special internal friendly match featuring bowlers who joined the club this year taking on established club members.

The match followed a series of highly successful and well-attended Monday evening coaching sessions led by our coach, Martin Workman, giving our newest members a chance to put their developing skills to the test in a fun and competitive environment.

Play got underway at 11am, ahead of the club's annual Afternoon Tea Event, expertly organised by Hazel Kerwin in support of Macmillan Cancer Support. The afternoon proved to be a tremendous success, raising more than £1,200 for this worthy cause and providing a well-earned treat for players and supporters alike after the match.

The contest was played in a triples format across six rinks. An opening six ends saw both teams eager to gain the upper hand before a reshuffle of players created new combinations for a further six ends of friendly competition. Match captain Gordon Davies ensured the day ran smoothly, with everyone embracing the spirit of sportsmanship that makes our club so special.

Adding an extra touch of fun, the Newbies team arrived sporting an assortment of comedy hats, bringing plenty of laughter and colour to the occasion and proving that bowls can be just as entertaining off the scorecard as on it!

Congratulations to everyone who took part and gave their all on the green, which had recovered remarkably well following the challenges posed by this summer's heatwaves. The standard of play, enthusiasm and camaraderie on display were a credit to all involved.

While many of us are sorry to see another memorable outdoor season come to an end, there's plenty to look forward to. The bowls action continues indoors with our popular short mat sessions on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and Friday evenings, keeping everyone active and connected until we return to the green next season.

Friendly Match Report – Tuesday 25^th August 2026
Bicester Bowls Club vs Bloxham

On a lovely late summer’s evening, a team from Bloxham Bowls Club travelled to Bicester for a friendly mixed triples match played across five rinks. The match was played to16 ends. Gordon Davies for Bicester captained the match, and the teams were eager to enjoy a fun and competitive match in the spirit of good sportsmanship.

Bloxham gave a good performance, however Bicester Bowls Club narrowly won the match with a winning score of 70 shots to Bloxham’s 67 shots. Congratulations to Bicester on their victory, and a big well done to all the players who gave their best on the green.

Bicester’s highest scoring rink with a score of 21 shots to 18 shots was led by Skip Kevin Taylor, with No. 2 Mickie Davis and Irene Dymond in the lead role.

It was a pleasure to meet with our friends from Bloxham Bowls Club who are a very experienced team, and everyone is looking forward to playing them again next year. Until then, it’s back to the greens for more practice and camaraderie!

Friendly Match Report – Wednesday 5 August 2026

Brackley & District Bowls Club vs Bicester Bowls Club

On a beautiful summer’s evening, we travelled to Brackley & District Bowls Club for a friendly mixed triples match played across four rinks. The match started at 6pm and was played to 16 ends. Gordon Davies for Bicester captained the match, and the teams were eager to enjoy a fun and competitive match in the spirit of good sportsmanship.

Despite Bicester giving a satisfactory performance, Brackley & District Bowls Club triumphed on the night with a winning score of 59 shots to Bicester’s 51 shots. Congratulations to Brackley players on their narrow victory, and a big well done to all at the match who gave their best on the green which was excellent to play on.

Bicester’s highest scoring rink at 17-9 shots was led by Skip Gordon Davies with No. 2 Terry Dymond and Irene Dymond in the lead role.

It was a pleasure to meet with our friends from Brackley & District Bowls Club who are a very experienced team, and everyone is looking forward to playing them again at their indoor rink, either later this year or early next year. Until then, it’s back to the greens for more practice and camaraderie!

Cleaning Rota

 It would be really useful to have volunteers for next year's cleaning at the club starting from January 2027, and it would be brilliant if new members would like to become involved in this vital task to keep the club in pristine condition.
